WINTER BLUMEN GARTEN

AT, COL 2025 | Super8, 16mm | post-production

Two women exchange filmic letters that cross past and present, interweaving archival footage from amateur films with present-day fictional footage shot on 16mm. They never meet in person, only in their films. They are: Heidrun, a Viennese portrayed through archival footage, and Sara, a Colombian migrant working in the film archive of the Austrian Film Museum. Both live in Vienna at different times and observe the city from their respective perspectives and life situations. The film addresses issues such as migration, uprootedness and racism, and takes on an essayistic dimension by questioning what deserves to be archived and what does not.

The initial development of this project was funded by the Startstipendium für Filmkunst 2023 (BKMOES), while the treatment and scriptwriting have been awarded the ScripLAB Docu grant from the drehbuchFORUM Vienna 2024.

This project was part of the workshop Pitching & Matchmaking for BIPOC Filmmakers and Production Companies with Vic So Hee Alz, organized by Gewächshaus Network at Diagonale 2024 (Graz, Austria). The project is in post-production and has been funded by MA7 (Vienna) and BMKOES (Austria).
